Newscom is the Best Site Ever for Photos of One Direction
There are a few circles on Twitter in which Newscom is very popular. For example, Dr. Who’s David Tennant fans seem to find a good selection of gorgeous photos of him floating around on our site. A few Tom Welling fans even tweeted us the other day just to say “thank you” for the recent photos of him that showed up on the site. We also have “nom”-worthy photos of pop band “The Wanted“. But the part of the Twitterverse that really takes the cake, and where we seem to have recently made people very happy, is with fans of One Direction.
Monday evening, around 8 pm ET, one of our partners uploaded hundred of photos of the British-Irish band (1D for short) playing around in Australia. We already had 10,000 pictures of the band on the site, but this particular batch of photos seemed to be one of the first chances for fans to catch the band SHIRTLESS. Within an hour of the first tweet about the pictures, we had more than 20,000 hits on the site in the matter of a few minutes (slowing the servers down) and several people had confessed their undying love, in less than 140 characters, to Newscom and all of its shirtless goodness.

We thought it was fun. And it gave me a good excuse to spend the day researching One Direction and watching music videos. I’ve grown rather fond of “One Thing“, but “That’s What Makes You Beautiful” is quickly gaining ground too.
For the unenlightened, One Direction rose to fame in 2010 on the British version of The X Factor. Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Harry Styles all tried out individually for the seventh season of The X Factor, but didn’t make it past auditions. Nicole Scherzinger, a guest judge on the show, suggested they form a band and try out for the “Groups” category. They went on to place third overall in the competition. Since then, they have reached international stardom with girls (I’m sure some boys) screaming everywhere they go. Their first single “What Makes You Beautiful” was released in September of 2011 and they’ll begin their tour of the world in 2013, hitting North America in June.
I’m not going to lie, listening to them over the last few days has been addicting (their cute words and accents make my knees weak). I just can’t decide which one is cutest. Which one wins your heart?
